Choosing a Wedding Venue (see our wedding planning guide here)
Have you just got engaged and are looking for a wedding venue? How do you know what to ask and what to look for in a wedding venue? Peruse our tips below before you visit your short list of wedding venues and make a list of criteria and questions to ask.
a. How much can you afford? Decide on a budget and stick to it. There will always be unexpected costs so leave a contingency for them. Catering can be expensive and may help you to limit the number of guests.
b. Wedding location - church or civil ceremony. When you've decided you can then, if choosing a church, make a shortlist of reception venues or if civil ceremony a shortlist of venues that can offer this service. Think of your guests though and how far it is from the church to the reception venue or how far they will travel from home.
c. Wedding guests. Once you have a rough idea of the number of guests it will help you to shortlist the venues. Additionally travelling distance is important from the church, from the hotel of guests are staying or from their home if just coming for the day.
d. Wedding date. Have you chosen a date that gives you enough time to book the venue of your choice. Remember venues may get booked up years in advance and certainly months.
